Valley County is located in the great state of Nebraska, within the central part of the state. The county was established on February 25, 1873, following the passage of a bill by the Nebraska State Legislature. It was named after the fertile land and scenic valleys present in the region. The county covers an area of 570 square miles and has a population of just over 4,000 residents, as of 2020.

The first settlers arrived in the area around 1871, and as they did, they established small communities and began farming the fertile land. The city of Ord was designated as the county seat in 1873, and over time it grew to become the county's largest city. The arrival of the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad in the 1880s played a significant role in driving the county's growth, as the new rail connection allowed local farmers to easily transport their crops to larger markets.

A notable landmark in Valley County is the Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park. This well-preserved historic site was active from 1874-1881, and it played a crucial role in protecting settlers and maintaining peace during the Indian Wars of that time. Today, visitors can explore the grounds and learn about the lives of the soldiers who were stationed there.

A fun fact about Valley County is that it holds an annual event called the Valley County Fair, which dates back to the early 1900s. This lively local tradition features a parade, rodeos, concerts, and numerous competitions, bringing the community together to celebrate the region's history and agricultural roots.
