Webster County, located in the south-central region of the great state of Nebraska, was established in 1870 during a time of significant expansion and development in the area. Named after the prominent statesman Daniel Webster, the county is primarily an agricultural-based region. Red Cloud, the county seat, was founded in 1871 and named after the famed Oglala Lakota Chief, Red Cloud.

The Homestead Act of 1862 attracted numerous settlers to Nebraska, and many chose Webster County due to its fertile soil and vast potential for agriculture. The area became home to several thriving communities, with Red Cloud quickly becoming the commercial and administrative center of the county.

A noteworthy fun fact about Webster County is that it was once home to the renowned American author, Willa Cather. In 1873, her family moved from Virginia to Webster County, where she spent most of her childhood years on a farm near Red Cloud. Cather's early experiences in this region greatly influenced her writing, and many of her famous works, such as "My Antonia" and "O Pioneers!", are set in Nebraska.

Today, Webster County is home to approximately 3,600 people, and visitors to the area can explore various historic sites, including the childhood home of Willa Cather and several buildings cited in her novels.
