Wheeler County is located in the great state of Nebraska, USA. It was established on February 17, 1877, and named in honor of Major Daniel H. Wheeler, a local pioneer and the first secretary of the Nebraska State Board of Agriculture. The original inhabitants of the area were Native American tribes, followed by European settlers during the westward expansion.

The county seat is Bartlett, which is also the largest village in the county. The main economic activities in Wheeler County have historically been farming, ranching, and agriculture. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, the region witnessed a growth in population and development as a result of the Homestead Act and the expansion of the railroad system.

Fun fact: Wheeler County is home to the Nebraska National Forest's Bessey Ranger District, which includes the world's largest hand-planted forest. Known as Charles E. Bessey Nursery, the forest was established in 1902 by botany professor Charles E. Bessey as an experiment to test the adaptability and resilience of different tree species in the Great Plains. Contrary to the prevailing belief that trees could not grow in the region, the successful planting of millions of seedlings transformed the area into a thriving forest, which now covers over 90,000 acres.
