Cape May County is located in the southeastern part of the great state of New Jersey. Established in 1692, it is one of America's oldest vacation resort destinations. The county is named after the Dutch explorer Cornelius Jacobsen Mey, who explored and charted the North American coastline from 1611 to 1614. Cape May County has a rich history that dates back to the indigenous Lenni Lenape people who once resided in the area.

In the early 17th century, European settlers began to arrive, and by the 18th century, Cape May became a popular vacation destination for the wealthy, who built Victorian-style summer homes along the coast. The county's economy largely prospered due to its location along the Atlantic Ocean, which led to the growth of the shipping and fishing industries. In addition, the Cape May Canal was constructed during World War II to provide a strategic and protected shipping route between the Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

Today, Cape May County is known for its charming beach towns, such as Cape May, Wildwood, and Ocean City, which attract thousands of tourists annually. These towns offer sandy beaches, delicious seafood, bustling boardwalks, and a plethora of historic sites and landmarks.

Fun fact: Cape May County is home to the Cape May Lighthouse, which was built in 1859 and is still operational today. This iconic structure is one of the oldest continually operating lighthouses in the United States and attracts thousands of visitors each year.
