Hunterdon County is a picturesque rural region in the Great State of New Jersey, USA. Established on March 11, 1714, it was named in honor of Robert Hunter, the colonial Governor of New Jersey from 1710 to 1720. The county covers an area of approximately 430 square miles and is situated in the western part of the state, bordered by the Delaware River. Its seat is Flemington, a town rich in history.

The area was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans, and European settlers began arriving in the 17th century, primarily from England, Germany, and the Netherlands. Hunterdon County saw significant growth in the 19th and early 20th centuries due to its strategic placement along the Delaware River, which facilitated trade and transportation. The county also played a small part during the American Revolution, with some skirmishes and troop movements taking place within its borders.

Agriculture has been a vital part of Hunterdon County's history, owing to its fertile soil and favorable climate. The county is well-known for its dairy farms, wineries, and various crops, making it an essential region for New Jersey's agro-based industries.

One fun fact about Hunterdon County is that it is home to the oldest continuously operating courthouse in New Jersey. The historic building, situated in Flemington, has been in use since 1791 and has even hosted a few famous trials, such as the Lindbergh kidnapping trial in 1935, which garnered significant national attention.
