Morris County, located in the great state of New Jersey, was officially established in 1739 as part of New York Province. It was named after Colonel Lewis Morris, who was then the acting governor of New Jersey. The county holds a rich history that dates back to pre-colonial times and played a significant role in the development of the United States.

In the 1700s and 1800s, Morris County became an important hub for various industries, including ironworking and mining. During the American Revolution, the county served as a strategic military base because of its iron resources and proximity between Philadelphia and New York. The historic Jockey Hollow and surrounding areas, where George Washington built his winter encampment during the Revolutionary War, can still be visited today as part of the Morristown National Historical Park.

Morris County is also known for its beautiful landscapes and outdoor attractions. It is home to the Great Swamp, which is one of the first national wildlife refuges in the United States, established in 1960. This protected area consists of more than 7,700 acres of habitat for birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.

A fun fact about Morris County is that it was once the largest producer of rose seeds in the world! In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the Conard-Pyle Company, based in what is now Boonton Township, was responsible for supplying millions of rose seeds to horticulturists in the United States and around the world. As a result, Morris County earned the nickname "Rose City" during this time.
