Guadalupe County is located in the eastern part of the great state of New Mexico, USA. It was created on February 26, 1891, from parts of the neighboring San Miguel County. The county, named after Our Lady of Guadalupe, is an important region in New Mexico's history. It covers roughly 3,032 square miles of land, with the Pecos River running through it.

The county seat is Santa Rosa, which is often referred to as the "City of Natural Lakes" due to several natural sinkholes filled with water in the area, giving it a unique landscape. Other communities in the county include Anton Chico, Dilia, La Loma, Newkirk, Puerto de Luna, and Vaughn.

Interestingly, Guadalupe County was a thriving center for cattle and sheep ranching during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The arrival of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in 1901 transformed the region, allowing for easier transportation of goods and people.

A unique aspect of Guadalupe County's history is the connection to the infamous Billy the Kid, a notorious desperado from the Old West. His first known criminal act took place in 1875 in the county's settlement of Puerto de Luna, where he stole a bundle of laundry.

A fun fact about Guadalupe County is that it is home to the Blue Hole, a popular diving and training destination. The Blue Hole is an artesian well with crystal-clear water that maintains a consistent temperature of 62 degrees Fahrenheit, making it a unique oasis in the arid New Mexico landscape.
