The county has a rich historical background, particularly influenced by Native American tribes like the Navajo, Pueblo, and Anasazi peoples. The Anasazi first settled the area around 3100 BCE, leaving behind significant archaeological sites, such as the Chaco Canyon and Aztec Ruins National Monuments.
