Sandoval County is located in the northern part of the great state of New Mexico, in the USA. The county was officially established on March 10, 1903, and encompasses approximately 3,714 square miles. Its county seat is Bernalillo, and one of the county's largest cities is Rio Rancho.

Sandoval County is home to numerous Native American tribes and pueblos, making the area rich in cultural history. It was formerly inhabited by the Ancestral Puebloans, who left behind extensive archaeological evidence like pottery, petroglyphs, and ancient villages. The region witnessed the arrival of Spanish settlers in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, who established new communities and interacted with the Native American population. As part of the Spanish colonial territory of Santa Fe de San Francisco, the area went through a series of revolts, territorial transfers, and jurisdictional changes over the years. After the Mexican-American War and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848, the region became a part of the United States.

One fun fact about Sandoval County is that it is home to the Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument, a remarkable natural site featuring cone-shaped tent rock formations, the result of volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago. These formations can vary in height from a few feet to as tall as 90 feet, attracting thousands of tourists for outdoor recreational activities like hiking and bird watching.
