Franklin County is located in the great state of New York, specifically in the North Country region. It was founded on March 11, 1808, and named in honor of Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding fathers of the United States. Its county seat is Malone, and the county has played an important role throughout American history.

Initially, the land that now comprises Franklin County was inhabited by Native Americans, particularly the Iroquois and Algonquin tribes. In the early 17th century, Europeans, mainly the French and the English, began exploring and settling the area. The region was then governed by several English, and later, American colonial governments, including New France, the Province of New York, and the Vermont Republic.

During the Revolutionary War, Franklin County was part of the larger efforts of the United States to gain independence. During the 19th century, the region became an essential part of the Underground Railroad. Various routes were created by abolitionists within Franklin County, helping enslaved African Americans escape to Canada and gain freedom.

As for its economy, Franklin County's natural resources played a significant role. Timber, agriculture, and mining these resources helped spur economic development within the region during the 19th century. Additionally, the construction of railroads further fostered the county's economic growth.

Today, Franklin County boasts numerous attractions that draw tourists and outdoor enthusiasts. Some of the most notable attractions include the Adirondack Park, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Reservation at Akwesasne, and the Malone Golf Club.
