Adams County is a picturesque region located in the southern part of the great state of Ohio, founded on July 10, 1797. Named after John Adams, the second President of the United States, the county is encompassed by the Ohio River to the south which forms its 21-mile southern border. Aboriginal populations initially inhabited the area, particularly the Adena culture, which can be traced back to the period between 1000 BCE and 200 BCE.

European settlers, mostly of Scots-Irish descent, began arriving in the late 18th century. They started developing the land by clearing it for farming and building communities. West Union, the largest settlement of Adams County, was established in 1800 and became the county seat. The county remained mostly agricultural throughout its history, with small industries and businesses emerging over time.

Encompassing a part of the Appalachian Ohio region, Adams County is known for its stunning landscapes, rolling hills, and fascinating outdoor attractions. One fun fact about Adams County is that it is home to the Serpent Mound, a unique ancient effigy mound shaped like a snake with a curled tail. This mysterious effigy, which can be traced back to at least 1000 years, is situated in the vast Serpent Mound State Memorial Park, which offers unparalleled views of the surrounding landscape and provides an inspiring snapshot of the region's ancient Native American history.
