Brown County is located in the southwestern region of the great state of Ohio, United States. Established on March 1, 1818, the county was named in honor of General Jacob Brown, a War of 1812 hero who also served as Commanding General of the U.S. Army from 1821 until his death in 1828. Covering approximately 493 square miles, Brown County is part of the Cincinnati-Middletown Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The region was primarily settled by individuals of European descent who migrated westward across the Appalachian Mountains, seeking land and new opportunities. During the early 19th century, Brown County's economy predominantly centered around agriculture, with farmers growing corn, wheat, and tobacco, along with raising livestock. Over time, the economy diversified with the establishment of various mills, distilleries, and other industries.

One fun fact about Brown County is that it is home to the birthplace of Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th President of the United States, who was born in the small village of Point Pleasant on April 27, 1822. The birthplace, known as the Ulysses S. Grant Birthplace Historic Site, has been preserved and is open to the public for visitation.
