Clark County, located in the southwestern part of the great state of Ohio, was established on March 1, 1818. The county was named in honor of General George Rogers Clark, a Revolutionary War hero and the conqueror of the Old Northwest Territory. The county seat is Springfield, which sits near the center of the county and was incorporated in 1827.

The area now known as Clark County was originally inhabited by indigenous tribes such as the Shawnee, Miami, and Delaware. European settlers arrived during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, drawn by the fertile land and a location along the major state routes that connected it to other parts of Ohio.

Since its establishment, Clark County has seen significant economic and industrial growth. The area was a hub for manufacturing during the 19th and 20th centuries, with many industries like agriculture, transportation, and later, automobile production, thriving in the region. Prominent businesses such as the Oliver Farm Equipment Company and the Crowell-Collier Publishing Company, once the world's largest magazine publisher, were located in the county.

A fun fact about Clark County is that it is home to the Westcott House, which was designed by the renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1908. Located in Springfield, the Westcott House is the only Prairie Style home designed by Wright in Ohio and has been fully restored, operating today as a museum and education center.
