Delaware County is located in the great state of Ohio and has a rich historical background. It was formed on February 10, 1808, from land that was originally part of Franklin County, making it one of the state's oldest counties. The county's name is derived from the Delaware Native American tribe, who resided in the region before European settlers arrived.

The first Europeans to explore the region were French fur traders in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. In the mid-18th century, the British gained control of the territory after the French and Indian War, and later, it became part of the United States through the Treaty of Paris in 1783.

One of the county's earliest settlements was the village of Delaware, which was founded in 1808 and later became the county seat. The region experienced rapid growth as new settlers arrived, attracted by fertile land and the availability of rich resources such as timber and limestone. The construction of railroads in the mid-19th century further boosted the county's growth, connecting it to markets and spurring industrial development.

During the Civil War, Delaware County contributed significantly to the Union war effort. Notably, the Delaware County Courthouse, constructed in the 1860s, is known for being one of the few public buildings in Ohio still standing from that era.

A fun fact about the region is the existence of the historic Olentangy Indian Caverns. These natural caves were formed millions of years ago and were once used as a refuge by the Wyandotte tribe of Native Americans. Today, this site is open to the public for exploration and offers a unique educational and recreational experience, giving visitors a glimpse into the geological and cultural history of the region.
