Hardin County, located in the great state of Ohio, was established on April 1, 1820. It was named after John Hardin, an officer in the Revolutionary War and the Indian Wars, who was noted for his bravery and dedication to the American cause. The county was originally part of the land set aside for the US military after the War of 1812. It spans an area of approximately 470 square miles and is home to over 31,000 residents.

The county seat of Hardin County is the city of Kenton, which was founded in 1832 by John B. Kenton, the nephew of the famous pioneer and scout Woodrow Kenton. The city of Kenton was a significant location for the transportation and manufacturing industries during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, thanks in part to its position on the rails of the New York Central Railroad.

One fun fact about Hardin County is that it is home to the only wild bison herd in Ohio. These bison can be found at the Wild Bison and Wetland Preserve in McGuffey, which provides a unique opportunity for guests to learn about and see these magnificent animals up close.
