Marion County, located in the great state of Ohio, was established on April 1, 1824. Named after General Francis Marion, also known as the "Swamp Fox" for his elusive tactics during the American Revolutionary War, the county covers an area of 404 square miles in the north-central part of the state. The county seat, Marion, was founded in 1822 and is named for the same reason.

The development of Marion County was influenced by the industrial revolution and the expansion of transportation infrastructure, with significant growth attributed to the arrival of railroads in the mid-1800s. As the access to transportation improved, the county grew into a hub for industries including foundries and manufacturing, as well as agriculture. Additionally, Marion County's rich limestone deposits proved valuable to Ohio's growing construction industry during the 19th and 20th centuries.

One fun fact about Marion County is that it was once home to President Warren G. Harding, the 29th President of the United States, from 1921 to 1923. Harding was born in Blooming Grove, Ohio, and lived in Marion County throughout much of his life. Today, the Warren G. Harding Presidential Library and Museum honors his life and legacy, showcasing his humble beginnings in Ohio as well as his journey to the White House.
