Miami County is located in the west-central part of the state of Ohio, in the United States. Established on March 1, 1807, the county was named after the Miami River, which in turn was named after the Miami Native American Tribe. The region was originally inhabited by several Native American tribes before European settlers arrived in the 18th century.

Piqua, the largest city in the county, serves as the county seat and is home to many historical sites and landmarks. The first European-American settlers arrived in the late 1700s, establishing the towns of Troy, Tipp City, Covington, and West Milton. The growth of Miami County was largely driven by its fertile agricultural lands, with industries such as gristmills, sawmills, and woolen mills also thriving in the 19th century. The completion of the Miami and Erie Canal in the 1830s further connected the county to regional markets, fueling economic development.

One fun fact about Miami County is that Piqua, the county seat, is home to one of the oldest and largest Native American earthworks on the Great Circle. The Johnston Farm and Indian Agency in Piqua is a historic site showcasing Native American and early European-American history in Ohio. Visitors can learn about the region's rich history and explore the beautiful landscape through multiple trails that provide views of the Great Miami Riverway.
