Paulding County, located in the great state of Ohio, was founded on April 1, 1820, and officially organized on February 13, 1839. Named after John Paulding, an American Revolutionary War hero, the county lies in the northwestern region of the state. The county seat is established in the village of Paulding.

The area was originally inhabited by indigenous tribes, including the Miami and the Shawnee. European-Americans started settling in the area during the early 19th century, with many driven by the prospect of land ownership granted through the federal land grant system.

The agricultural industry has historically played a significant role in the region's development, and to this day, Paulding County is predominantly rural. Lumber and manufacturings were also key industries, with the county boasting several mills and factories over the years.

A fun fact about Paulding County is related to its natural attractions. The county is home to the Charloe Wetlands, a roughly 60-acre preserved swamp area hosting a diverse ecosystem of plant and animal life. The wetlands provide a unique environment that attracts nature enthusiasts and bird watchers, with an observation deck overlooking one of Ohio's few remaining black ash seeps.
