Preble County is located in the southwestern part of the great state of Ohio. It was formed on March 1, 1808, named after Commodore Edward Preble, an early American naval hero who fought in the Revolutionary War and the First Barbary War. The county was created from portions of Butler and Miami Counties, and its first European settlers arrived in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The county seat, Eaton, was founded in 1806 by William Bruce, and was named in honor of General William Eaton, a contemporary of Commodore Preble.

The economy of Preble County was originally founded on agriculture, with farming being a significant part of the county's identity. The county is known for its beautiful rural landscape and its picturesque covered bridges, which are iconic symbols of American agrarian life.

One fun fact about Preble County is that it hosts the annual Pork Festival, celebrating its rich agricultural history and connection to the pork industry. The festival attracts thousands of visitors from around the region, who come to enjoy a parade, live entertainment, rides, and of course, a variety of delicious pork-based dishes.
