Stark County, located in northeastern Ohio, was founded on February 13, 1808, and named after Revolutionary War General John Stark. Its county seat is Canton, which is well-known as the birthplace of American professional football and home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The region prospered throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, thanks to its favorable location along key transportation routes, including the Ohio & Erie Canal and the Pennsylvania Railroad.

During the Industrial Revolution, Stark County's thriving industries helped to establish it as an economically significant area within Ohio. These industries included steel manufacturing, agriculture, and the production of paper and chemicals. However, with the decline of manufacturing in the latter half of the 20th century, the region faced economic challenges and underwent a transition towards an increasingly service-oriented economy.

One fun fact about Stark County is that the city of Canton is known as the birthplace of the National Football League (NFL). On September 17, 1920, a group of team representatives gathered at Canton's Hupmobile dealership and founded the American Professional Football Association (APFA), which would later become the NFL. Today, the Pro Football Hall of Fame attracts visitors from all over the world to celebrate the history and impact of the sport, symbolizing Stark County's unique place in American sports history.
