Beaver County, located in the Oklahoma Panhandle, is the westernmost county in the state of Oklahoma. The area was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Apache, Comanche, and Kiowa before European settlement. The region was first explored by Spanish explorers in the 16th century, with the French also claiming the area during the 18th century.

In 1803, the United States acquired the land as part of the Louisiana Purchase. The area was mostly unsettled and considered "No Man's Land" because it did not officially belong to any state or territory. Beaver County was eventually established on July 16, 1890, as part of the Oklahoma Territory, and its boundaries were defined in 1891.

The county was named after Beaver River, a major tributary of the North Canadian River that flows through the region. The river itself was named for the abundance of beaver population and the extensive beaver trade that flourished in the area between the mid-1600s and mid-1800s.

A significant event in Beaver County's history was the Dust Bowl in the 1930s, which devastated local agriculture due to extremely dry conditions, soil erosion, and dust storms. This led to many farms failing, and many residents had to leave in search of better opportunities.

Today, Beaver County is known for its agriculture, particularly wheat and cattle production. The county seat remains in Beaver City, which is also known as the "Cow Chip Capital of the World." This title leads us to the fun fact - Beaver County is famous for the annual World Championship Cow Chip Throwing Contest. This quirky event, held in April, attracts visitors from all over the world to compete in throwing dried cow dung for the farthest distance.
