Canadian County, located in the central part of the great state of Oklahoma, was established in 1890 as part of the Oklahoma Territory before it became a state in 1907. It was named after the Canadian River, which in turn was named by early French explorers who incorrectly believed the river flowed to Canada. The county seat is El Reno.

Canadian County was once a hub for transportation and commerce, with several historic trails such as the Chisholm Trail and the California Road running through it. It also became home to numerous Native American tribes, who were forcibly removed to the area via the Trail of Tears, including the Cheyenne, the Arapaho, and the Caddo.

The county was settled during the Land Run of 1889, where settlers raced into the territory to claim land after it was opened up by the US government. The area has a rich agricultural history, with cattle ranching, wheat farming, and dairying playing significant roles in its economy.

A fun fact about Canadian County is that the famous Route 66 highway runs through it, which led to the development of many service stations, cafes, and motels in the region during the 20th century, making it an iconic pit stop for travelers exploring the American West.
