Grant County is located in the northern region of the great state of Oklahoma. Established on September 16, 1893, it was initially formed as part of the Cherokee Outlet land run during the opening of the Unassigned Lands. The county was named in honor of U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant.

This region of the USA was first explored by European settlers in the early 1800s, with the Chisholm Trail cattle route passing through the county's eastern portion during the late 1800s. The discovery of salt deposits in the area led to the growth of salt-mining businesses, while agriculture evolved as the primary industry of the region. Historically, principal crops grown in Grant County include wheat, corn, and alfalfa.

Fun fact: The town of Medford, which serves as the county seat of Grant County, hosts an annual celebration called the "World Cow Chip Throwing Championship," a popular and quirky contest that attracts participants from across the state and country.
