Texas County is located in the panhandle region of the great state of Oklahoma. It was originally a part of the No Man's Land, an area with no formal jurisdiction in the mid-19th century when the United States and Mexico both resolved boundary disputes. It officially became a part of Oklahoma Territory on May 2, 1890, when the Organic Act was passed by the United States Congress.

The county was originally named Beaver County; however, on November 16, 1907, when Oklahoma became a state, the residents voted to split the county into three parts. The middle portion retained the name Beaver County, and the other two portions were named Texas County and Cimarron County. Texas County was named in honor of the state of Texas, which is adjacent to its southern border.

The agriculture and oil & gas industries are significant contributors to the economy, with major crops like corn, wheat, sorghum, and alfalfa being grown in the area.
