Tillman County, located in the southwestern part of Oklahoma, was established on July 16, 1907, when Oklahoma became a state. The county is named in honor of Senator Benjamin Ryan Tillman, a South Carolinian who was a prominent advocate for farmers and an influential figure in the establishment of agricultural colleges in America.

The area was originally inhabited by the Quapaw and Comanche Native American tribes. European exploration in the region began with the Spanish conquistadors in the early 16th century, who passed through the area in search of gold and other valuable resources. The French, in the late 17th century, claimed the region as part of their colonial empire, and it was then ceded to the United States through the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.

During the late 19th century, the area experienced growth due to the expansion of the railroad, connecting the region with the rest of the United States. The agricultural potential of the region attracted a significant number of settlers, leading to the establishment of many farming communities.

One interesting fact about Tillman County is that it has been identified as one of the significant sites for wind energy production in the state of Oklahoma, thanks to its favorable geographic location and wind resources. This has led to the development of wind farms in the area, contributing to the growth of renewable energy in the United States.

This area is also home to the Red River Pumpkin Patch, a popular fall destination that features a wide variety of pumpkins, gourds, and other autumnal decorations. The pumpkin patch is located near the Red River, which forms the boundary between Oklahoma and Texas, and offers visitors the opportunity to pick their own pumpkins, go on hayrides, and enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities. It is a fun and festive way to celebrate the changing of the seasons in southeastern Oklahoma.
