Tulsa County, located in the northeastern part of Oklahoma, was established on July 16, 1907, right after Oklahoma achieved statehood. It is part of the region historically known as "Indian Territory," where Native American tribes were forcibly resettled in the early-to-mid 19th century following the Indian Removal Act. After the Civil War, cattlemen drove their herds across the area, and with the arrival of the railroads, growth and development quickly ensued.

The city of Tulsa, the county seat, is often called the "Oil Capital of the World" for its significant role in the American oil industry. In the early 20th century, the discovery of oil at the nearby Glenn Pool transformed Tulsa into a major oil center, attracting investors and workers alike. As a result, the city experienced a rapid population growth, and the wealth generated led to the establishment of opulent hotels, mansions, and landmarks.

Tulsa County played a crucial role during the Civil Rights Movement. The Greenwood District in Tulsa, known as "Black Wall Street," was a prosperous African American community. However, in 1921, the Tulsa Race Massacre marked one of the most devastating events in US history when white mobs killed hundreds of Black residents and destroyed the neighborhood leaving thousands homeless. Today, the Greenwood District is undergoing a revival, working to honor the past and build for the future.

One fun fact about Tulsa County is that it is home to the world's largest praying hands sculpture, standing at 60 feet tall. These hands can be found on the campus of the Oral Roberts University and stand as a significant and unique symbol in the area, reflecting the prominence of religious institutions in the region.
