Columbia County is located in the great state of Oregon, on the northwest side of the state. The county was established on January 16, 1851, and it was named after the Columbia River, which forms its northern and eastern borders. The county seat is St. Helens.

The history of the area goes back thousands of years, with Native American tribes such as the Upper Chinook, Clatskanie, and Clatsop inhabiting the region along the Columbia River. Lewis and Clark passed through the region in 1805 during their famed expedition, leading to the area's eventual exploration and settlement.

In the mid-19th century, European-American settlers arrived, attracted by the fertile lands and plentiful resources. The region experienced a boom in logging and agriculture, particularly dairy farming, which still remains as an economic driver today. In the early 20th century, Columbia County became involved in the maritime and shipbuilding industries, particularly during World War I and II, with several shipyards and manufacturing factories being established in the county.

Columbia County is known for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities, such as the Scappoose Bay Kayaking, a popular spot for paddle sports enthusiasts, and the Sauvie Island Wildlife Area, which is a great place for bird-watching and observing other wildlife.

Fun fact: Columbia County is home to the famous Watts Towers, which are actually located in the community of Warren. These towers are 20-foot tall aluminum poles topped with large, colorful glass bulbs. They were built in 1965 by the grandfather of the current owner and have become a unique and easily recognizable local landmark.
