Curry County is located in the southwestern part of the state of Oregon, in the United States. It was established on December 18, 1855, and was named after George Curry, a politician and the third Governor of the Oregon Territory from 1853 to 1854.

The county covers an area of 1,989 square miles and has a population of around 22,000 as of the 2020 census. The original inhabitants of the region were various native tribes, such as the Chetco, Tututni, and Pistol River tribes, who relied on fishing, hunting, and gathering for their sustenance.

During the 19th century, European settlers arrived in the area in search of gold, timber, and land for agriculture. Port Orford, at the southern tip of the county, was settled by gold miners in the early 1850s and is the oldest town in Curry County. The county's economy rapidly expanded with numerous gold mines and lumber operations. The Chetco River served as an important transportation route for the lumber industry.

Today, Curry County is characterized by its rugged coastline, forests, and the diverse plant and animal life in the region. Tourism is a significant industry, with visitors coming to experience the beauty of the coastal communities, outdoor recreational opportunities, and cultural events.

Fun Fact: Curry County is home to the westernmost point in the contiguous United States: Cape Blanco. Visitors can explore the Cape Blanco State Park and enjoy stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, hike along coastal trails, and visit the historic Cape Blanco Lighthouse, which was built in 1870 and is the oldest standing lighthouse in Oregon.
