Forest County is located in the northwestern region of the great state of Pennsylvania. Established on April 11, 1848, it was created from parts of Jefferson County and was named in honor of its extensive forests. The county seat is the borough of Tionesta.

The history of Forest County dates back centuries when Native American tribes, like the Seneca and Iroquois, lived and hunted on this land. European settlers arrived in the region during the 18th and 19th centuries. The lumber industry was an essential part of Forest County's development, and it experienced a lumber boom in the late 19th century as the availability of timber resources attracted lumbermen and their families.

Forest County also saw an oil boom in the late 19th century, when oil drilling derricks sprouted up across the area. The county's growth during this period was rapid, with both industries notably shaping its economy and social fabric.

One fun fact about Forest County is that it is home to the Allegheny National Forest, which boasts over 500,000 acres of pristine forest scattered with trails, campsites, and diverse wildlife. The forest is well-known for its beautiful fall foliage, making it a popular destination for tourists during the autumn months.
