The land of Fulton County served as a primary passageway for Native American tribes, as well as European settlers in the 18th century, who traversed the various mountains and valleys across the region. The county is known for its role during the French and Indian War when Fort Littleton was established in 1756 as a vital defense point against potential raids.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, the industrial revolution took root in Fulton County, focusing mainly on agricultural and farming industries. The introduction of the Lincoln Highway, known today as U.S. Route 30, brought an influx of travelers and businesses to the area, bolstering its economic growth.
