Potter County, located in the great state of Pennsylvania, was officially established on March 26, 1804, from parts of Lycoming County. Named after famous Revolutionary War general James Potter, this region is situated in North Central Pennsylvania, encompassing an area of approximately 1,082 square miles. The county seat, Coudersport, was founded in 1807 by John Keating.

The region was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, such as the Seneca and Delaware, prior to European settlers arriving in the 18th century. In the early 1800s, it was primarily a rural area, with settlers engaging in hunting, fishing, and small-scale agriculture. The development of Potter County accelerated in the mid-19th century following the discovery of native timber resources, with logging becoming a significant industry.

By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the economy of Potter County diversified further with the growth of the tanning, glass-making, and later, the automobile parts manufacturing industries.

Today, Potter County is largely appreciated for its abundant scenic beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities, much of which can be found within the vast and picturesque Susquehannock State Forest.

Fun Fact: Potter County is sometimes referred to as "God's Country" because of its remarkably unspoiled scenery and pristine natural beauty, an endearing nickname that reflects the region's incredible landscapes and unique character.
