Sullivan County is a picturesque rural area located in the northeastern part of the state of Pennsylvania. The county was officially established on March 15, 1847, and it derived its name from Senator Charles C. Sullivan, a prominent Pennsylvanian statesman of that time. The county is home to beautiful landscapes and is cradled by the Appalachian Mountains. Covering a total area of approximately 450 square miles, Sullivan County had an estimated population of 6,066 in 2020.

Prior to European settlement, the area was inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Susquehannock and the Delaware. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the county's economy prospered due to its fertile farmland and abundant natural resources such as timber and coal. The lumber industry played a significant role in the economic development of the region.

Sullivan County's lumber boom reached its peak in the late 19th century and attracted numerous railroad companies, mills, and workers. As a result, several small towns were established, including the county seat Laporte, named after the French statesman Marquis de La Porte. The lumber boom did not last forever, and by the early 20th century, the industry declined due to the exhaustion of timber resources and the great depression that hit the United States.

Throughout its history, Sullivan County has remained a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, thanks to its pristine lakes, rivers, and forests. The county is home to several state parks and forests, such as Worlds End State Park and Loyalsock State Forest.

Fun fact: One unique event in Sullivan County is the Dushore Dairy Parade, which has been held annually since 1950. This event celebrates the local dairy industry and features a parade, performances, food, and fun activities for the whole family.
