York County, located in the southeastern region of the great state of Pennsylvania, has a rich historical background. The county was established on August 19, 1749, when it was carved out of Lancaster County. It was named in honor of the English city of York, which was the ancestral home of its early settlers, the Pennsylvania Dutch. The region is nestled along the Susquehanna River and includes the rolling hills, lush farmlands, and picturesque landscapes that make up Pennsylvania's Dutch Country.

A significant event in York County's history was the American Revolution, during which York became a temporary capital of the Continental Congress. From September 30, 1777, to June 27, 1778, the Congress met in York and even adopted the Articles of Confederation on November 15, 1777.

During the Civil War, York was occupied for a short period by Confederate forces under General Jubal Early in 1863. This event marked the farthest eastward advance of the Confederate forces in Pennsylvania during the war.

Throughout history, York County has been known for its agricultural contributions, particularly in the cultivation of wheat, corn, and tobacco. The area has also supported various industries such as manufacturing, steam engines, and railroads.

Fun fact: York County is often called the "Factory Capital of the United States" in the late 1800s due to the presence of several industrial companies, including the York Manufacturing Company (later known as York International and now Johnson Controls), which was a major producer of ice-making machines, refrigeration, and air-conditioning units.
