Laurens County, located in the great state of South Carolina, was established in 1785 and named after the South Carolina statesman, Henry Laurens. Henry Laurens was a merchant, a plantation owner, and served as the President of the Continental Congress during the American Revolutionary War.

The county is situated in the northwest part of the state and is home to several notable historical landmarks, including the Laurens County Courthouse, completed in 1838, the Old City Cemetery, and the Springfield Baptist Church. The county seat is the city of Laurens, which was initially a colonial crossroads featuring several Native American trails in the 1700s. Today, Laurens County has grown to encompass more than 719 square miles, and the town of Laurens was designated a Main Street community in 2019.

A fun fact about Laurens County is that it was the site of the only Revolutionary War battle that occurred on present-day South Carolina soil, the Battle of Musgrove Mill. The conflict took place on August 19, 1780, and resulted in a significant victory for the American Patriots over the British Loyalists. This victory boosted the morale of the American troops during a challenging time and was a crucial turning point in the Revolutionary War in the Southern theater.
