Pickens County, located in the great state of South Carolina, was established in 1826, carved out from the larger Pendleton District. Named in honor of the revolutionary war hero, Brigadier General Andrew Pickens, it covers an area of approximately 512 square miles. Nestled in the northwest part of the state, it is bordered by North Carolina and is a part of the Greenville metropolitan area.

Pickens County is home to several historically significant sites such as the Old Pickens Presbyterian Church and Cemetery, where many early settlers are buried. The county played a crucial role in the textile industry boom during the later part of the 19th century and the early 20th century, with major mills such as Alice Mill and Calhoun establishing their presence in the region.

Additionally, Clemson University, a renowned public research university, was founded in 1889 within Pickens County, making it an important center for education in South Carolina.

A fun fact about Pickens County is that it houses the iconic Table Rock State Park, which is known for its towering granite geological structures called "monadnocks". These structures are believed to be over 350 million years old and now provide spectacular views, as well as hiking and camping opportunities for those visiting the region.
