Spartanburg County is located in the northwestern region of the great state of South Carolina. It was founded in 1785 and has a rich and varied history. Originally inhabited by Native American tribes, primarily the Cherokee, the area was later settled by European colonists from various countries, mainly England, Ireland, Scotland, and Germany.

In the early 1800s, Spartanburg County experienced growth as a center for textile industries. This was mainly driven by the abundant water resources, fertile land, and ready transportation facilities. The establishment of numerous cotton mills helped transform the economy and built the foundation for its title "Hub City," a moniker earned a century later due to the prominence of railways and its central location.

During the Civil War, Spartanburg County was mainly a source of raw materials and food for the Confederacy but was spared from total destruction. In the late 19th and 20th centuries, the county witnessed significant industrialization, and textile production continued to dominate its economy.

Today, Spartanburg County showcases a diverse economy, with key industries including international manufacturing, automotive production, and distribution. The county has become a hub for global business, attracting major international companies such as BMW, Michelin, and Adidas.
