Corson County is located in the northern part of the great state of South Dakota, USA. Established on March 2, 1909, it was named in honor of Dighton Corson, a prominent lawyer, and jurist from the state. The county covers an area of approximately 2,529 square miles, and as of the 2020 United States Census, its population stands at around 4,191 residents.

Originally inhabited by the nomadic Sioux Native American tribes, the county has a rich history that includes aspects of the region's Indigenous heritage. The area played a significant role in the settlement of European pioneers, with rural agriculture forming the backbone of the early regional economy.

The county seat of McIntosh was established in 1910, and apart from agriculture, energy production has emerged as one of the primary industries in the 21st century. The majority of the Standing Rock Indian Reservation, where the Lakota and Dakota people live, is situated in Corson County as well.

One fun fact about Corson County is that it is home to a unique geological formation called the Slim Buttes. These buttes, also known as Petit Buttes, are a series of small mesas in the southwestern part of the county.
