Deuel County is located in the northeastern part of the great state of South Dakota. It was founded in 1862 and named in honor of Jacob S. Deuel, who was a prominent citizen of South Dakota and served as a member of the territorial and state legislatures.

The county's original inhabitants were Native American tribes, including the Santee Sioux, who were eventually displaced by European settlers in the mid-1800s. The arrival of the railroad in the 1870s and 1880s spurred growth and development in the area. Agriculture has been the mainstay of the Deuel County economy since its formation, with fertile land making it ideal for farming crops like corn, wheat, and soybeans, as well as raising livestock.

The county seat is Clear Lake, which was established in 1884. The city was named after the nearby Clear Lake, a popular recreational area and an important source of water for early settlers. The lake is known for its clear water, which led to its name.

A fun fact about this region is that Deuel County is home to the South Dakota Tractor Museum, located in the town of Clear Lake. The museum features an impressive collection of tractors and agricultural equipment from various time periods, showcasing the evolution of farming technology in the region. Visitors can experience the rich agricultural history of Deuel County and appreciate the importance of farming in this part of the United States.
