Douglas County, located in South Dakota, was created on January 8, 1873, and named in honor of Stephen A. Douglas, an influential American politician and senator from Illinois. The county spans 434 square miles and has its seat in Armour, which was founded in 1885 by H. L. Jolley as a product of the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railway's westward expansion.

Historically, Douglas County was largely agricultural, with a focus on corn, soybeans, and livestock such as cattle and hogs. The region has a strong history of supporting local businesses and individuals with its small-town feel, fostering a sense of unity and tradition.

One fun fact about Douglas County is that it is home to the World's Only Corn Palace, a one-of-a-kind structure located in its neighboring county, Mitchell, and visited by hundreds of thousands of people each year. The Corn Palace's murals, made entirely of corn and other grains, are redesigned every year, attracting tourists from across the globe.
