Faulk County, located in the great state of South Dakota, was established on April 26, 1873, and organized on September 27, 1883. The county was named after Andrew Jackson Faulk, the third Governor of the Dakota Territory, who served from 1866 to 1869. The county is situated in the northeastern part of the state and has an area of around 1,003 square miles.

The region was primarily inhabited by the Sioux tribe before the settlement of European-American pioneers in the late 19th century. The railroad brought rapid growth and development to the area in the early 20th century, with agriculture and livestock grazing becoming the main economic activities.

The county seat of Faulkton, also known as "Carousel City," was named after the county and is home to a historic carousel built in 1925. The carousel is one of few still featuring original wooden hand-carved horses, and still operates to delight thousands of visitors and residents each year.

A fun fact about Faulk County is that it is home to the "World's Largest Pheasant," a 40-foot tall fiberglass sculpture located in Huron, South Dakota. This unique attraction symbolizes the county's strong association with pheasant hunting, which is a popular recreational activity in the area.
