Moody County is located in the great state of South Dakota, in the United States. It was established on October 2, 1873, and was named after Gideon C. Moody, an early pioneer, gold prospector, attorney, and prominent politician who served as a United States Senator from South Dakota. The county seat is Flandreau, which was named after Charles Flandrau, a prominent Minnesota judge at the time.

The Dakota, Nakota, and Lakota tribes of the Sioux Nation are the original inhabitants of the area, and their indigenous culture is deeply rooted in the region. The European colonists, mainly French fur traders, used the region for trapping and trade, leading to an influx of settlers during the 18th and 19th centuries. The establishment of the county brought in more settlers, and agriculture, mining, and cattle ranching thrived over the years.

As for a fun fact, the Flandreau City Park in Moody County hosts an annual Fourth of July celebration, known as Flandreau's Famous Fourth. They organize various fun activities, competitions, and host a grand fireworks display, drawing people from various neighboring communities to witness and participate in the celebrations.
