Turner County is a county located in the southeastern part of South Dakota. It was named after John W. Turner, a prominent pioneer and one of the first settlers in the area.

Turner County was established in 1871, just a few years after the end of the American Civil War. The county was organized by a group of settlers who wanted to create a new community in the Dakota Territory. Over the years, the county has developed into a major center for agriculture, with corn, soybeans, and livestock being the primary industries in the area.
