Walworth County is located in the north-central region of the great state of South Dakota. Established in 1873 and organized in 1883, Walworth County was named after Walworth County in Wisconsin, which was the origin of many early settlers in the area. The county has a total area of 744 square miles, and as of the 2020 United States Census, its population was 5,434.

The county seat is in Selby, which is also the largest city in the county. Walworth County is largely agricultural, with farming and ranching playing an important role in the local economy. The Missouri River, which borders Walworth County to the south, brought many settlers to the area in the 1800s, contributing significantly to its development.

A fun fact about Walworth County is that it is home to the Mobridge-Pollock School District tiger mascot, the oldest North American prehistoric sport mascot that dates back thousands of years! This mascot was discovered on a local archaeological site called the Molstad Village Site, showcasing the rich history and unique cultural aspects of this region of the United States.
