Anderson County is located in the eastern part of the great state of Tennessee, USA. Established in 1801, it was named in honor of Joseph Anderson, a former Revolutionary War officer and early U.S. Senator from Tennessee. Anderson County encompasses an area of approximately 338 square miles and has its county seat in the city of Clinton. Oak Ridge, another major city in the county, played a vital role in the development of the atomic bomb during World War II as part of the Manhattan Project.
