Benton County, located in the great state of Tennessee, was formed in 1835 from parts of Humphreys County and Indian lands. Named after Thomas Hart Benton, a prominent Missouri senator and supporter of westward expansion, the county boasts a rich historical background.

Its county seat, Camden, was established in 1836 and became a hub for local trade and politics. The economy of Benton County was traditionally agricultural, with farming and timber as its major economic drivers. During the Civil War, the county saw a division of loyalties among its residents, with both Confederate and Union supporters living within its boundaries.

In the 20th century, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) brought significant changes to the region by establishing the Kentucky Dam, Kentucky Lake, and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), bringing new economic opportunities and recreational activities to the county.

A fun fact about Benton County is that it is home to the famous bird-dog field trial competition, the National Bird Dog Championship. Held at the Bird Dog Field Trial Hall of Fame located in Camden, this event attracts thousands of visitors every year and pays homage to the county's deep-rooted sporting tradition.

The combination of rich history and natural beauty make Benton County a charming part of Tennessee that is sure to enjoy continued growth and prosperity.
