Cannon County is a rural county located in the great state of Tennessee, United States. It was established on January 31, 1836, and named in honor of Governor Newton Cannon who served as the Governor of Tennessee from 1835 to 1839. The county seat and largest city is Woodbury.

Cannon County's terrain primarily consists of rolling hills and valleys, with the beautiful Cumberland Plateau bordering the eastern part of the county. The area was traditionally inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Cherokee, Chickasaw, and Creek, before settlers of European descent arrived in the late 18th century. The region grew significantly due to agriculture, particularly cotton and corn farming.

During the American Civil War, Cannon County experienced divided loyalties, as many residents supported the Union, while others sympathized with the Confederate cause. The county was officially part of the Confederate territory, but no major battles occurred there.

Today, Cannon County is known for its thriving agritourism industry and strong community spirit. Its economy mainly relies on agriculture, with small-scale industries focusing on livestock, dairy, and poultry.
