Cheatham County, located in the great state of Tennessee, was established on February 28, 1856. The county was created from portions of Davidson, Dickson, Montgomery, and Robertson counties, and was named in honor of Edward Saunders Cheatham, a prominent Tennessean and an officer who fought during the Seminole War and the Mexican-American War.

Situated in the central part of the state, Cheatham County is bordered by Montgomery, Robertson, Davidson, Williamson, and Dickson counties. The Cumberland River serves as the county's eastern border and plays a vital role in its history and culture. The county seat is Ashland City, while other notable towns include Kingston Springs and Pegram.

Throughout its history, Cheatham County has been predominantly an agricultural region, growing crops like tobacco and cotton. The region's strategic location along the Cumberland River fostered trade and commerce, with the river serving as a primary transportation route.

In addition to agricultural and river-based industries, the county was once known for its bustling railroad activity. The Tennessee and Pacific Railroad, which connected Nashville and Clarksville, was completed in 1868, leading to the development of additional towns like Ashland City and Pegram.

One fun fact about Cheatham County is that it is home to the stunning Narrows of the Harpeth, a unique geological feature where the Harpeth River flows around a five-mile bend in the landscape but comes within 200 feet of itself at one point. This spot, called the Montgomery Bell Tunnel, is the site of one of the first ever full-scale water diversion tunnel projects in the United States, dating back to 1819, and was a major engineering feat at the time. Today, the Narrows of the Harpeth is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and hiking.
