Chester County, located in the great state of Tennessee, is a region with a rich historical background. Established on March 1, 1882, Chester County was named in honor of Colonel Robert I. Chester, who was a prominent military figure, politician, and postmaster. The county was formed from parts of neighboring Hardeman, Madison, and McNairy counties. Henderson, its county seat, was named after Henderson Henderson, a very early settler of the region.

While it was initially a predominantly agricultural community, Chester County grew and diversified with the passage of time. The opening of the Chickasaw Woodland and Iron Furnace Company in 1837 significantly contributed to the growth and development of the county. Agriculture, particularly farming and livestock raising, remained the mainstay of Chester County's economy until the 20th century.

In terms of education, Freed-Hardeman University, located in Henderson, has played an essential role in shaping Chester County's intellectual landscape since its founding in 1869. As a private university affiliated with the churches of Christ, it has long been a respected institution that attracts students from all over the United States.

One fun fact about Chester County is that it is home to Chickasaw State Park. Established in 1955, the park covers over 1,400 acres, featuring beautiful scenery, hiking trails, and a variety of recreational activities such as fishing, horseback riding, and camping.
