Cocke County is located in the eastern portion of Tennessee in the United States, and it was established on October 9, 1797, from a portion of Jefferson County. The county was named in honor of William Cocke, a Revolutionary War soldier, advocate for Tennessee statehood, and one of Tennessee's first two United States senators.

Historically, agriculture and industry have contributed significantly to the county's economy. The Great Smoky Mountains, which partially lie within Cocke County, have drawn numerous tourists over the years, boosting the local tourism industry.

An interesting fun fact about Cocke County is that it was the location of the Battle of Cosby's Knob during the American Civil War in 1864. The battle was part of the larger Knoxville Campaign and took place on the hill of Cosby's Knob, which is now part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Confederate forces occupied the Knob but were eventually forced to retreat, allowing the Union forces to claim victory in this small but notable skirmish.
