Greene County, located in the great state of Tennessee, was founded in 1783 as an original county of the State of Franklin, named in honor of Benjamin Franklin. It later became part of the Southwest Territory in 1790 and then officially part of the state of Tennessee in 1796 when it was admitted to the Union. The county was named after Major General Nathanael Greene, a prominent figure in the American Revolutionary War who was a close associate of George Washington.

Greene County is nestled within the Appalachian Mountains and is known for its picturesque beauty and rich cultural heritage. The county seat, Greeneville, holds a significant place in history as it was the home of Andrew Johnson, the 17th president of the United States. The Andrew Johnson National Historic Site, which includes his home, tailor shop, and cemetery, is open to the public and serves as a tourist attraction.

One fun fact about Greene County is that during the American Civil War, Greene County had both Confederate and Union soldiers among its residents. The Battle of Blue Springs and the Battle of Greeneville were both fought in the county, showcasing the divisions that existed within the region during this time. Today, the county's historical landmarks and natural beauty make it an attractive destination for visitors looking to explore the rich history of Tennessee.
